Barlow Solar Project
Barlow Solar Park was constructed on approximately 61 hectares of land within the City of Calgary. The facility is situated on a capped phosphogypsum stack (a byproduct of fertilizer manufacturing), making productive use of a hazardous waste site that would otherwise have limited development potential. This presented unique challenges for design and construction; the facilities’ 70,000 solar panels are supported by 6,307 concrete ballast foundations to minimize ground disturbance on-stack.
